With journalists increasingly using social networking websites such as Twitter to report news, courts in the UK and around the world have received requests from journalists to be allowed to use mobile devices in courtrooms which are open to the public and are not subject to reporting restrictions. Lord Chief Justice Igor Judge announced his decision in a ‚practice guidance‘ released on Wednesday after consulting with senior judiciary officials.
PHUKET: Businesses wishing to appear in the 2012 Gazette Guide, Phuket’s ‘yellow pages’, have until 6pm on Thursday, December 22, to enter (or update) their listings. Businesses not listed by that date will not appear in the directory until 2013. The 400-page book, with details of more than 4,200 businesses serving the international community on Phuket, will be released on January 14, 2012.

PHUKET: Police do not suspect foul play in the death of a Finnish tourist Veijo Armas Vallius, found dead in his Phuket hotel room last week. The body of 52-year-old Mr Vallius was discovered in a hotel room in Kamala on December 8. Somnerk Damkeaw of the Kamala Police told the Gazette today that the body of Mr Vallius remains at the Patong Hospital morgue, as relatives have yet to claim it.

PHUKET: American Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Junie Browning is the subject of an island-wide manhunt following two brawls in Phuket on Sunday and his subsequent escape from Patong Hospital. The manhunt was launched following local media reports that an unnamed American man had been involved in a brawl at a bar in Karon. The man then continued fighting with several foes at Patong Hospital, where all the people involved in the fracas had been sent for treatment.
