Krabi officials declare a rabies outbreak zone
A district livestock office in Krabi province has announced a Rabies outbreak zone in the Mueang Krabi district area. Somphon Jantara, chief livestock officer of Mueang Krabi District, announced that the Sai Thai village, Moo 1 is a designated outbreak zone after a male dog tested positive for Rabies on Wednesday. A rabies temporary control zone will now run from January 30 to March 1 in a radius around the Moo 1 village in Tambon Sai Thai.

Wat Chalong Fair kicks off on February 4
Phuket’s biggest annual temple fair, held at Wat Chalong, will kick off on February 4 to offer one week of local fun, stalls, food and entertainment. Each year the Fair attracts thousands of visitors who come to sample the wide range of food, browse the market stalls and enjoy the variety of activities on offer. There will also be traditional nang talung shadow puppet performances and renditions of the Manorah play, indigenous culture from the southern region. Seven year old recovering after attack from wild dogs in Phang Nga
“The dogs have been captured and are no longer a danger to beachgoers.” Daily News is reporting that a seven year old boy is fighting for his life in Vachira Hospital Phuket after being mauled by a pack of dogs at a beach near the Sarasin Bridge, on the Phang Nga side.

Premchai case to be handed down on March 19
The verdict in the “black leopard” poaching case against construction tycoon Premchai Karnasuta and three associates is set to be handed down on March 19. Final arguments were heard today in the court in Kanchanaburi province, north-west of Bangkok.

Round ’em up, ship ’em out – another 500 foreigners arrested in crackdown
Authorities have rounded up another 503 foreigners for overstaying their visas, entering Thailand illegally and assorted other crimes during simultaneous searches at 217 locations around the country early today. Immigration Police Bureau deputy chief Pol Maj-General Itthipol Itthisarnronnachai says the raids are part of the government’s crackdown on transnational scammers, card skimmers and drug traffickers, as well as foreigners breaking immigration laws. The searches took place at locations including four schools, 73 private firms and shops, six service establishments and 50 hotels and hostels, he said
