Chiang Mai bids for listing as a World Heritage Site

Thailand’s current five world heritage sites include the Ban Chiang Archaeological Site in Udon Thani; the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex; the Historic City of Ayutthaya; the Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns; and the Thungyai-Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuaries. The Chiang Mai World Heritage Working Group is now ready to make its submission to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) to make Chiang Mai a world heritage city, Woralun Boonyasurat, head of the Thai Art Department at Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, said yesterday.

Fix Bangkok’s traffic within 3 months – Thai PM
Thai PM Prayut has instructed police stations to help with efforts to ease Bangkok’s severe road congestion problems within three months. The PM says that relevant technology must be adopted to help control and manage traffic flow, especially during peak hours. “The government can’t deny the responsibility of easing traffic problems.” He was speaking during a visit to the Traffic Police Division’s integrated traffic control centre. During the visit, General Prayut said that from now on all police stations in Bangkok will have to follow instructions from the traffic-control centre, in a move to ease traffic problems around the capital.

Indonesia set to ban dog meat trade
“In Surakarta, Central Java, an estimated 1,200 dogs are slaughtered and eaten daily by dog-meat connoisseurs in the city.” Indonesia’s government has bowed to international pressure and decided to issue a regulation banning the trade in dog meat. The decree also addresses concerns over the spread of rabies and animal abuse following campaigns against eating dog and cat meat in the country. Bangkok property trends continue to point upward
Bangkok’s property market continues to show price growth with an eight-point increase in the DDproperty Property Index from 205 to 213 in the first quarter of 2018. A strong opening for 2018, this growth is on the back of an improving economic outlook and an expected increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) this year to 4.2 percent (up 0.3 percent year on year), and in part due to the rising cost of developing projects in the popular but densely built-up areas in Bangkok.
