Police roles could be moved to other Government departments
The police force is looking to transfer many of its current key missions to other agencies if the reform plan approved by the National Reform Committee on Judicial Affairs goes ahead. The regulation of traffic flow and enforcement of traffic laws, for example, will be handed over to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Pattaya City Administration and some 30 other city municipalities around the country within three years of the laws related to police reforms taking effect

Seub Nakhasathien Foundation visits Phuket’s crocodile
‘Laypang’, the 200 kilogram male crocodile from the old tin mine near Laypang Beach has been moved to a bigger rehabilitation pond today (August 5). A specialist vet has found that it’s now moving more easily in the larger enclosure while the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation paid a visit to provide some advice. The new, larger cement pond is 6×5 meters divided into two parts, a water zone and a dry zone, connected with a slope.

NIDA poll shows 81 percent of Thais admire Prayut
The majority of respondents in a NIDA poll are giving PM Prayut Chan-o-cha good poll numbers for his administration’s performance over the past three years following the 2014 coup. Deputy PM Prawit Wongsuwan was also named the most impressive Cabinet member in the same survey. The poll by the National Institute of Development Administration says that 49 per cent of the 1,250 people surveyed approved of the Prayut government’s performance

Phuket offers jobs to the Bangkok flood jobless
PHUKET: The Phuket Skill Development Center (PSDC) along with a consortium of local businesses and recruitment specialists have launched a campaign to secure employment in Phuket for those people who have lost their jobs in Bangkok due to the floods. “An estimated 600,000 people have lost their jobs because their place of work was closed due to the floods,” said Ilyat Koshasawat, chief of the PSDC, which operates under the Department of Labor

Phuket’s Sri Panwa is ready to pilot minimum wage
PHUKET: One of the islands most luxurious lodgings says its ready to pilot daily minimum wages of 300 baht, after the government named Phuket as one of six provinces (along with Bangkok) where higher pay will be introduced first. Songkran Issara, the managing director of Charn Issara Development, which runs the Sri Panwa resort at Cape Panwa, said the company was ready to support the governments policy because in Thailand there was a large wage gap between people in the lower end of the workforce and those in higher positions. …
