    People along the shore of Pathiu district in southern Chumphon province have been treated to the sight of a pair of Bryde’s whales today (Tuesday).   The whales – commonly referred to as Bruda whales because of the pronunciation of the Norwegian name Bryde – surfaced repeatedly for about an hour near Koh Ran Ped and Koh Ran Kai, about six nautical miles off the mainland, according to Pathiu community tourism network president Somchok Panthurat.

    Local administration officials in Phuket and Krabi provinces are assuring people that they are trying to tackle the pollution problems in the sea at Ao Nang beach of Krabi and the sea at Tri Trang beach in Patong. Broken waste water treatment facilities are being blamed for the flow of untreated effluent from households and tourism-related establishments into the sea of both provinces which are popular destinations for both Thai and foreign tourists. Phuket Governor Norapat Plodthong visits the affected area along the southern end of Patong Beach yesterday Patong Mayor Chalermlak Kepsap, says that a new waste water treatment facility was under construction on the same location of the old one because the municipal could not find a new location for the facility.

The meeting gathers the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), Kasetsart University and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) with about 200 participants from many sectors in order to find solutions to reduce marine debris as well as raising awareness about the trash

    Pol Lt Col Montree Boonyayotin, Director of Natural Resource and Environment Case Division, Department of Special Investigation (DSI) The Supreme Court on November 1 confirmed the 6 businesses who tried to sue the government have lost their battle against Phuket local government offices including Thalang Land Office officers, Phuket Land Office Chief, Thalang District Chief, Phuket Administrative Office and Land Department. The prosecutors include Orapan Ploypetch, Sodsai Ongsritrakul, Pitak Boonpotjanasunthorn and Sawat Thongpaiyuth, who had businesses on Layan Beach, were given warnings from the officials to move out as the location were public land
