  • Indonesia all set for the Asian Games

    Having taken on the responsibility for hosting this year’s Asian Games after Vietnam pulled out, Indonesia says it’s ready for the sporting expo starting next week. Jakarta and Palembang in Sumatra will be host to over 11,000 athletes and 5,000 officials from 45 Asian countries for the Asian Games, the world’s largest multi-sport event behind the Olympics. Indonesia has set aside worries about terrorism, street crime and Jakarta’s notorious traffic, saying it is ready to roll for the Asian Games which will run from August 18 to September 2.

    The Malaysian South East Asian Games contingent has one aim – one, one, one. The target is to win 111 gold medals and be the top gun of the 29th SEA Games, which is being hosted by the country from Aug 19 to 30. The target was announced by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak handed the Jalur Gemilang to the SEA Games contingent and also to the Para Asean Games contingent at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) yesterday.

    PHUKET: Phuket girls Bussarin Raktaengam, Worakluck Kritsachaikan, Sudaphat Khongkaew and Pichakon Kankanok yesterday defeated their Nakhon Ratchasima opponents to win gold in the soft tennis event at the 28th Thailand National Youth Games being held in Phuket.

    PHUKET: The Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (PPAO) recently held a small ceremony to send off 50 athletes representing Phuket, who are currently in Trang province competing in the Nakorn Trang Games the 29th Southern region finals for Thailands local youth Olympic games. The Nakorn Trang games began on October 25 and continue for a month, concluding on November 23. Phuket student athletes are competing for the chance to participate in nationals to be held at a later date
