Phuket setting up tourist service centres along the west coast beaches
Phuket’s Vice Governor, Sanit Srivihok, held a meeting yesterday (November 29) to discuss locations for the tourist service centres on each of Phuket’s main beaches. The implementation of tourist service centres is a policy from Phuket’s Governor aiming to give information to travellers as well as providing support for any issues such as first aid in an accident or a contact location when people are lost. The beaches that the meeting decided to build tourist service centres include Patong Beach, Kata Beach, Karon Beach, Kamala Beach and Surin Beach.

Phuket stray dog pound make-over takes shape
During a morning meeting at the Provincial Hall (November 14), Phuket’s Governor, Noraphat Plodthong revealed the development plans for the Suan Pa Bang Kanun dog pound. He has ordered the Phuket Livestock Office to push forward the paperwork relating to the land of Suan Pa Bang Kanun so the renovation and development can progress as soon as possible

Governor visits flooded areas and discovers clogged drains
After a flash flood occurred on October 31 following just an hour of rain, Phuket Governor with his team visited the concerned areas and found that the drains were clogged by trash (again!). A budget of 220 million Baht is being set aside as part of the solution. A team consisting several departments at the Provincial office visited Thepkasattri Road in front of the Super Cheap Mall and Soi Surin 2 – areas that are often flooded.

Phuket’s annual vegetarian festival kicked off last night with religious rituals happening at the main Chinese shrines of the island with a large number of attendees including Phuket’s Governor, authorities, locals and tourists.

Laypang won’t be released back to the wild
The DNA results for Laypang, Phuket’s celebrity crocodile, has been revealed it is a mix between saltwater and freshwater crocodile which was possibly born through a human breeder, not naturally. Phuket’s Governor says that the Fisheries Department will be responsible for the next step in the Laypang saga.

Today (October 1), Phuket’s Governor visited the Marine Safety Centres in Patong and Karon to cheer up the temporary beach lifeguard teams whilst two tourists were saved from the waters off Nai Harn Beach thanks to volunteers this afternoon. Business as usual – Phuket’s beaches under lifeguard patrol
The Phuket Governor held a meeting yesterday (Saturday) bringing together all the beach lifeguard resources to prepare for the end of the lifeguard company contract which finished at 6.30 pm last night. Several local officials from the areas across Phuket joined the meeting to finalise preparations to send beach guards to each beach on the island today. There are 4 beaches in Muang Phuket district, Nai Harn Beach and Yanui Beach fall under the responsibility of Rawai Municipality and Kata Beach and Karon Beach which are under Karon Municipality.

Another parasail accident at Patong Beach injures Chilean tourist
A Chilean man in his late 20s was lucky to escape more serious injuries after his parasail finished up in trees after dragging the man along the ground and into several parked motorbikes. The incident happened at 3.30 this afternoon (September 26) at Patong Beach
