Yasathon is north of Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand’s north-east, near the Laos border. The comments from Yasothon police chief Maj General Pinyo Huankasin yesterday whilst speaking to the media.

47 year old shot dead in Narathiwat over drug conflict
A man was shot and killed in Narathiwat last night over an alleged drug-trafficking conflict. Police believe the death is not part of the southern insurgency that has continues to plague Thailand’s deep South for more than a decade.

A 74 year old German, accused of stabbing his much younger wife to death, has been arrested after nine years on the run. Siam Rath reports that Heinz Jurgen Theil has been arrested in Chiang Rai province and is now in custody, charged with murder

Chiang Mai man arrested after raping his own mother
A Chiang Mai man has been arrested after just being released from jail for killing his step father only to rape his own mother. 31 year old Chaiya Tanaa from Chiang Mai had caused distress to locals after he fled the area following the rape last month. Police discovered that he was hiding out in the forest and moved to arrest him. Daily News report that he had been in jail for the murder of his step-father but had since been released.

Couple murdered in Yala. Police believe political motives.
FILE PHOTO Police are hunting a group of gunmen in Yala after a home invasion and shooting when they shot dead an election candidate and his wife. Investigators suspect political motives at this stage. The couple’s two children narrowly escaped and are the only witnesses to the incident.
