  •  Phoenix fails to rise

    The attempt to bring the Phoenix up to surface has failed again due to ‘uncontrollable factors’. The Phuket Marine Office says that divers were trying to attach the ropes around the boat as well as trying to maneuvre larger orange ropes to make into a knot to attach to 200 litre floatation tanks. A large balloon is used to balance the boat whilst raising the boat from the floor of the Andaman Sea to prevent any damage to the boat.

    A search for a missing jet-ski staffer resumed at 7am today with jet-skis and speed boats combing the area the man was last seen. A staff member from a jet-ski business disappeared after he was hit by a wave near Koh Naka in Paklok, off the Ao Po coast, at 3pm yesterday (July 17) while a search resumed agin this morning today.

  • Chalong boats must stay at port

    The Phuket Marine Office has announced that, today (July 7), all boats are not permitted to leave from the Chalong Pier, except boats that are involved with the search teams which are under instruction from the search operation centre. The search for missing people started again this morning at 5am after being stopped late last evening. The focus of today’s recovery mission revolves around the Phoenix, which sank in 40 metres of water late Thursday afternoon, and a 10 kilometre radius around that area

    Dugong found dead on a beach in Rassada

    Kusoldham Phuket Foundation and Muang Phuket Police received a report from locals at noon today (January 26) about the dead body of a dugong washed up ashore on Somkiet Beach in Baan Laem Nga, Rassada sub-district. The 1.2-meter-long dugong started to smell already and there were traces of cuts from sharp items on the head, skin and stomach with its entrails hanging out. The dugong is believed to be a baby dugong of 1-2 years that has been dead for at least one week.
