Canadian tourist in hospital after falling from an elephant ride
Chalong Police have headed to the scene of an incident at an elephant camp near Nark Kerd Hill in Chalong at 2.15pm yesterday. Police and rescue workers arrived to find a 38 year old female Canadian tourist who has sustained left leg injuries and was taken to the Bangkok Hospital Phuket. Wirawit Pakprom, the elephant’s mahout, told police that the female tourist was with a male friend.

Thai Airways doubles up on 2017 losses
Thai Airways has doubled up on losses for the past three months (Q3), compared to the same period last year. They’ve reported an operating loss of 3.69 billion baht, up 103% year-on-year. The total revenue was actually up 2.2%, according to a statement from the Thai Airways president, Sumeth Damrongchaitham, but the operating costs were up 1.87 billion baht, compared with the same period in 2017.

A foreign dive instructor at Phi Phi Island posted a picture of a blacktip reef shark found dead inside a bag in a LINE group ‘Phi Phi Island news informs’ with a message reading “a shark has found dead in a bag at Maya Bay.” Chief of the Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park, Worapot Lomlim, says, “We have been notified about this.

282K methamphetamine pills seized in Krabi
Krabi police have seized 282,000 methamphetamine pills with a street value of around 15 million baht. The methamphetamine pills were paid with cars to launder money. Krabi Police have arrested four suspects – 33 year old Khwanchai ‘Mark’ Boonjan from Chumphon, 38 year old Sutane ‘Ple’ Puangpen from Krabi, Narongdet ‘Khai’ Pankarn from Chumphon and 29 year old Visit ‘Wha’ Suchartpong from Nakhon Si Thammarat.

44 national assembly reps support bill to decriminalise ‘medical marijuana’
A total of 44 members of the Thai National Legislative Assembly have signed in support of a draft bill to decriminalise marijuana for medical purpose by deleting cannabis from the Category 5 list of narcotic drugs, said Mr Somchai Sawaengkarn, secretary of the NLA’s extraordinary committee on parliamentary affairs.
