Krabi Coal Power Plant to get more public hearings
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and its consulting company are preparing another set of public hearings about the proposed coal power plant project at Baan Klong Rua Pier after a series of protests against the project from locals and activists. “After the government suspended the project following the disagreements from locals, who commented that the EHIA (environmental health impact assessment) was not complete, we have reconsidered the information and errors and will submit the project once again”, said Wimonchai Mongkhol, the Head of Project Study, about extending the current Krabi Power Plant with community involvement. “The charcoal power plant is one of the projects included in the ‘PDP 2010’ to extend electricity productivity from 2012 – 2030 to support the economic development in the southern region of Thailand, which grows at an average of 5-6% per year.

Reports on social media that a 28 year old Russian woman had been attacked and raped on Koh Phi Phi are false according to local police. Police say there was no truth to the suggestion there was a misunderstanding after the alleged victim told a Russian friend to contact police

Southern insurgents attack a defence volunteer in Narathiwat
A group of Muslim insurgents opened fired and threw a bomb at a defence volunteer’s house in Narathiwat’s Tak Bai district late on Friday night. Nobody was injured. Police said the attack against the house of 38 year old Arthit Chankaew happened late on Friday night

Governor visits Rassada Pier to inspect improvements
Phuket’s Governor, Norapat Plodthong, along a team from the Provincial offices, visited Rassada Pier this morning (January 2), to encourage the staff and promising to upgrade the security and services at the pier. 18 year old alleged killer arrested in Thalang crackdown
An 18 year old, who allegedly shot a 17 year old couple on December 23, killing the girl, has been arrested along with 33 other people who illegally posses guns and bullets plus another 20 people involved in drug-related cases. This follows a police crime crackdown measures during Christmas and New Year period.

Thalang car crash kills two, including a one year old baby
At midnight on Saturday night, at Saladaeng intersection on Thepkasattri Road in Thalang, a 6-wheel bus crashed into a car, resulting in two casualties and an injured driver in serious condition. The bus was driven by 42 year old Boonyong Linla, who police allege was driving at high speed and ignored a traffic signal, running the red light. He crashed into the car of the family of three, driven by 24 year old Pradit Robroo with two passengers, 18 year old Kanlaya Mianbut and one year old Kornkamon Robroo
