British man beaten up by Thai thugs in Pai for ‘interfering’ in an argument
PHOTOS: Daily News 37 year old Luke Benjamin Thornton has ended up in hospital in Chiang Mai after trying to break up a fight in Pai, north of Chiang Mai, on May 20. Daily News reports that Luke was trying to stop a fight between locals and tourists and was beaten unconscious with a wooden club and kicks. They reported that a group of tourists were in the road when some drunk Thai men arrived on motorcycles and an argument started outside a local school.

Chiang Mai man arrested after raping his own mother
A Chiang Mai man has been arrested after just being released from jail for killing his step father only to rape his own mother. 31 year old Chaiya Tanaa from Chiang Mai had caused distress to locals after he fled the area following the rape last month. Police discovered that he was hiding out in the forest and moved to arrest him. Daily News report that he had been in jail for the murder of his step-father but had since been released.

Separate tests, different licenses for big and small motorbike riders
PHOTO: The Thai PM tries his hand at big-bike riding in promotions for the Buriram MotoGP – Daily News Daily News reports that a senior government spokesman says the cabinet agrees with the idea of treating big bikes and other bikes separately in terms of education and licensing. A proposal says that in order to lessen road accidents those riding big bikes should be treated differently with more training and special licensing provided for those who want to ride higher-powered motorbikes. They quoted Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnert saying the government agrees with adjusting a 2005 law. Speaking after a ministerial level meeting in Chumpon he said that in future those applying for licenses who wanted to ride big bikes would have to take a separate test and have a different license
