PHUKET: An Australian tourist was found dead at a high-end Phuket hotel last night. Police believe she died after falling from an elevated walkway. Lt Col Sarit Butnongsang of Cherng Talay Police said he received a call from staff at the Amanpuri Resort at Surin Beach at about 11pm.

PHUKET: What started off as a conversation between Phuket businessman Paul Newson and his wife and business partner Skulna “Bird” Varayu has quickly developed into a relief effort to assist flood victims in the Central Thailand province of Nakhon Sawan. The original idea focused on helping immediate family in Nakhon Sawan, but the concept quickly snowballed into a larger effort to take aid from Phuket to the most affected area in the region. The project now involves four vehicles that the group – all members of Phuket’s Grumpy Old Men (GOM) society –plan to load to bursting point with essential items needed to reunite flood-affected families with their homes, many of which have been submerged by severe flooding.

PHUKET: The Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) is about to install 189 CCTV cameras throughout Koh Kaew and Rassada at a cost of 29 million baht. The roll-out is phase two of the OrBorJors citizen safety campaign, which will coordinate with police in providing CCTV footage of traffic accidents and other incidents, explained OrBorJor President Paiboon Upatising.

PHUKET: Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha has been roped into resolving the ongoing dispute between local residents and the Phuket Highways Office over work that may see the bus terminal north of Phuket Town finally open. The 128-million-baht facility was completed nearly two years ago, but has yet to be used. The delay in opening stems from complaint after complaint being filed over traffic safety due to buses entering and leaving the terminal, and problems in having a government authority managing the site once the terminal opens
PHUKET: Singaporean Anthony Chaw Tat Soon, 39, is recovering at Phuket International Hospital with three broken limbs a lucky escape from a head-on crash in Phang Nga last Thursday that killed fellow rider and friend Charlene Jade Tay, 31. A hospital staffer today told the Phuket Gazette that Mr Chaw was rushed from Phang Nga Hospital to Phuket on Friday. …
