  • Fake food and cosmetic products in Thai markets

    Thai PBS is reporting that the FTI’s food supplements industry club is coming under scrutiny following police and officials from the Food and Drugs Administration raided several major manufacturing plants and found huge quantities of substandard and fake cosmetic and food supplements. The Federation of Thai Industries is claiming that 40% of food supplements and cosmetic products sold in markets were found to be fake and contaminated

  • Korean summit kicks off tomorrow

    The Korea Herald is reporting that a momentous meeting is about to take place, tomorrow in fact, between the leaders of two (technically) warring nations – North Korea and South Korea. South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will meet at the Military Demarcation Line in Panmunjeom at 9:30am Friday, Moon’s chief of staff Im Jong-seok said today (Thursday). According to Im, Kim will cross the Military Demarcation Line between the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission offices, where he will be greeted by Moon.

Tourist police searched 118 locations around the country yesterday (Wednesday) and arrested another 93 foreigners for entering and living in Thailand illegally.     Two villagers shot dead in Yala

    In the most recent violence in Thailand’s deep south, a former village head and his friend have been gunned down in Yala province last evening (Wednesday), according to Police.   The two were shot by an unknown number of suspected insurgents using M16 rifles on the main road in Ban Kuber Kuaroh village, Tambon Jakwa, in Raman district at around 6.30pm last night.   The victims have been identified as 44 year old Abdulroning Rokeh, a former village head, and 20 year old Ibrahim Sadahong

  • 37 billion baht motorway planned – Had Yai to Malaysian border

    PHOTO: Had Yai commercial district The Thai government plans to build a 62km motorway in the southern province of Songkhla, from Had Yai to the Malaysian border in a bid to boost bilateral trade and cross-border tourism Estimates put the trade value in the region at around 500 billion baht per year according to the Transport Minister Arkham Termpitayapaisit. The private sector will be invited to bid for the project, which is estimated to cost 37 billion baht, as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme, with the government providing land and other infrastructure

  • 10 million Baht crackdown on drugs. Meanwhile the drugs get cheaper.

    Police Region 8 held a press conference in Krabi, following weeks of big drug busts, to reveal another recent drug crackdown which has netted 85,170 amphetamine pills worth around 10 million Baht on the streets. A couple arrested in the most recent case includes 24 year old Thepnarin Naksawad and 21 year old Kamonthip Kongmee, who were living in Plai Praya District of Krabi. The police learnt about them after arresting a drug dealer, who informed the police about them

  • Governor visits Pakbang Canal after wastewater released into Patong bay

    Phuket’s Governor, Norapat Plodthong, visited Pakbang Canal and set a meeting with Patong Mayor, Chalermluck Kebsup, about the wastewater solution for the canal after rubbish and waste had been left without dredging for 2 years. The water released into Patong beach after this week’s rains, from the canal, is foul and stinks. The Governor said after the survey at the canal that the meeting agreed that the wastewater comes from the litter, green waste and dregs that’s built up over 2 years
