DSI visits Laypang Beach to recover encroached land from illegal businesses
An earlier attempt to remove Tony Restaurant from Laypang Beach in April 2016. The Director General of DSI, Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, and the Deputy Director General, Pol Lt Col Prawut Wongsinil, along with their team and local authorities, visited Laypang Beach today (November 16) to give notice to the business operators who still occupy the land. The direction is to move out within 30 days.

PM Prayut clarifies election date
PM General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday announced firmly that the election would be held in November next year, following a previous indication that it would be in June 2019. “For this [election] part, it was said that it would be around June 2018 that there will be the announcement of the election date, and then in November, there will be the election,” Prayut said after meetings of the Cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order at Government House.

Dramatic robbery of five pick-ups leaves two dead in Songkla
At least two people are dead after a daring robbery of five pick-up trucks in Songkhla yesterday which set off a dramatic series of events, including a hostage-taking, shootout, explosion and the safe disposal of a bomb. It started about 11am when a group of six or seven armed suspects raided the Wangto Car Centre in Tambon Na Thawi in Songkhla’s Na Thawi district and took four employees hostage. Phuket Police praised for quick work in Brazilian snatch case
PHUKET: Phuket Police have been praised for their quick work in arresting two youths after a Brazilian tourist had her camera snatched in Kata early Monday morning. Officers led by Karon Police Deputy Superintendent Sophon Borirak arrested Karon resident Kanin Kongchana, 22, and a 15-year-old Myanmar national at a rented room in Patong at 7pm Tuesday. The pair were found in possession of a Nikon camera stolen from Brazilian tourist Rosemary Maria Cabrera.
