Six arrested in 10 million baht Andaman tour scam
Police have arrested six female suspects linked to a tour company that allegedly swindled customers of 10 million baht for bogus tour packages, Deputy Tourist Police chief Maj-General Surachet Hakpan told a press conference in Bangkok on Monday. The suspects named as executives of the tour company were Thanyarat Sansangwal, Nawanat Phosuk, Kwanreuthai Monkaew, Sathaporn Thongphrom, Thanipa Kanhachat and Monthathip Ployprapasmuk.

21 year old arrested over assault on 82 year old following Facebook campaign
A young motorcyclist surrendered to police last night (Wednesday) evening following a Facebook campaign, which saw a reward of 60,000 baht being raised for his arrest, after he was recorded on video kicking and hitting an elderly man in Bangkok. 21 year old Narathorn Sodetiyung reportedly admitted that he had assaulted 82 year old Jaroon Maneephan after the latter knocked his motorcycle down with his push-cart tricycle and tried to flee the scene. The incident happened on Tuesday evening in the Din Daeng area of Bangkok. However, footage from a security camera seemed to contradict Narathorn’s claim.

The man who uncovered the watch scandal
The wristwatch scandal undermining the government can be credited to one man who wrote posts on his “investigative” website about all the 25 luxury watches allegedly worn by Deputy Premier and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan in recent years. The online portal CSI LA provided convincing information that led to public uproar, including photos of Prawit wearing the watches alongside details of the pricey timepieces. Prawit did not include any of the expensive watches in his financial reports submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

“Limit visits to marine national parks to six million”
A leading marine biologist has proposed to the government to limit visitors to marine national parks to 6 million a year to lessen impact on its ecological environment. Thon Thamrongnawasawat, deputy dean at the Fisheries Faculty of Kasetsart University, made his proposal at the meeting of the Marine and Coastal Resources Policy Management Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon on Friday (January 19).

Mystery of beached ‘Elysion’ solved
The mystery of the boat beached on an Aceh beach (original post below) has been solved with this message from the man who was aboard the yacht when the decision was made to abandon it…. “I sailed ‘Elysion’, a Belgian registered yacht, from Phuket (Thailand) to Langkawi, Malaysia but had to abandon the vessel about 40 nautical miles west from Koh Lipe on 1/1/2018 due to several failures (broken boom, engine failure, broken backstay, etc).
