CHIANG MAI: The flow of Chinese tourists entering northern Thailand by road in their own vehicles has dried up completely after the introduction of tough new regulations making it too costly and time consuming for them. Chiang Rai Chamber of Commerce deputy chief Pakaimass Viara said yesterday that no Chinese tourists have crossed the border at the R3A Highway through Laos in the past month, putting a dent in tourism revenue.
PHUKET: A budget of 9 million baht has been allocated to spruce up Chalong Pier with plans to improve facilities for the hundreds of tourists who visit the ferry point daily. Transportation Division Chief Prasit Yotharak of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO) said last week that renovation plans include more seating, more toilets, shower stalls and a Muslim prayer room.

PHANG NGA: A Royal Thai Navy search and rescue team yesterday recovered the body of a Royal Thai Army officer, who reportedly slid off a rock at Khao Na Yak in Phang Nga and went missing on Friday. Pongsathorn Pakdee, 22, was fishing with his friends when the incident took place, after which Janya Plaimuang, his aunt, reported the incident to Thai Navy Region 3.
