UPDATE – Phang Nga gang rape case
Two more men have been arrested yesterday (September 16) after Phang Nga Provincial Court issued 3 additional arrest warrants after 8 of them were issued earlier over the Phang Nga rape case. The village has also been found to play an important part in transporting various drugs to Phuket, according to police.

3,000 items snared in Patong counterfeit crackdown
A 33 year old Burmese man, Dam Bha Du and a 34 year old Vietnamese, Lam, have been arrested with a total of 3,000 counterfeit items from Patong. Following a report that a large number of counterfeit goods were being sold in Soi Kebsup on Taweewong Rd, a taskforce led by Phuket’s Governor, the ECD Police force and the Commander-in-Chief of Royal Thai Navy Region 3 visited the reported location and found 293 items including handbags, purses and belts, all imitations of luxury brand names such as Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Hermes which belonged to Lam. A further 2,360 pairs of counterfeit shoes branded with logos from Nike and Adidas were in the possession of Dam Bha Du.

New Region 8 Police Commander demands crime-free beaches
PHUKET: The new Police Region 8 Commander on Sunday demanded that officers in Karon and Patong include beaches in their patrol zones. “In order for tourists to truly relax and have a good time, they must feel safe, even on the beach,” said Police Region 8 Commander Panya Mamen on his first official visit to Phuket. In Karon, Lt Gen Panya heard complaints of officer shortages.

Another armed drug suspect arrested in Phuket
PHUKET: Police on Wednesday raided a house in a residential area in Thalang, where they seized 2,446 pills of ya bah (methamphetamine) and about 408g of ya ice (crystal methamphetamine). Acting on a tip-off from plainclothes officers, Thalang Police Deputy Superintendent Pisit Chunpet served a warrant to search the house, in Baan Don, for drugs. “We arrived at 3pm and saw several teenagers around the house, but they ran as soon as they saw us.

Police probe Phuket fisherman’s death
PHUKET: Police are investigating the cause of death of a Myanmar national whose body was found floating in the water off Rassada yesterday afternoon. Bystanders told police that the man, who police did not name, had been drinking on a boat with friends on Thursday night when he walked to the back to relieve himself, said Somchai Nhuboon of Phuket City Police. “We were told that he fell off the boat, hit his face while falling and then disappeared into the water,” said Captain Somchai.

Dozens charged over illegal fireworks at Phuket Vegetarian Festival
PHUKET: Phuket City Police arrested 21 people for setting off dangerous fireworks during the Phuket Vegetarian Festival, which drew to a close at midnight on Sunday. A further seven people were arrested for selling firecrackers without a permit.

Russian tourist found dead in Phuket hotel room
PHUKET: Police are investigating the cause of death of a Russian tourist whose body was discovered in his Karon hotel room on Saturday. The tourist, Yury Kiryukhin, 36, was to check out on Saturday and fly home. Staff at the Baan Karonburi Resort discovered Mr Kiryukhin’s body on the bed in his room at 8:30am, said Karon Police case investigator Capt Channarong Prakongkua.
