Report says Meay’s death not caused by punishment
The military-established fact-finding committee has concluded that the death of 18-year-old cadet Phakhapong “Meay” Tanyakan was not caused by any punishment. The committee, however, confirmed that Phakhapong was subject to inappropriate penalties at the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School (AFAPS) during the 48 hours before his death on October 17.

Phuket Marine Office reminds operators about safety for festive season
The Phuket Marine Office Chief, Surat Sirisaiy, said that there will be a large number of tourists, both local and foreigners, travelling by boat around Phuket’s waters over the high season, creating a higher volume of marine traffic. “Some days, the water levels are high, making the water current flow swiftly with differences in the tides and can possibly cause accident. The Marine Office has created additional safety measures to be communicated to the tour boat operators for their safety and their passengers.

Army concludes cadet’s death was from natural causes. Family says they’ll sue.
The family of cadet Phakhapong Tanyakan is dissatisfied with the conclusions of an investigation into the cause of his death and plans to sue the Army. An investigation into the death of the first-year cadet at Nakhon Nayok’s Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School by an Army committee has been completed and the report handed over to the Supreme Commander of the Army. While the results were not revealed to the public, a source said the investigation committee concluded that Phakhapong had died of natural causes. The conclusion matched the preliminary autopsy, which indicated that the cause of death was heart failure.

Reporters arrested in Myanmar information suppression
Myanmar police have charged two Reuters reporters covering the Rohingya crisis with violating the Official Secrets Act, Yangon-based Eleven Media reports. 31 year old Wa Lone and 27 year old Kyaw Soe Oo are accused of sending classified information they gleaned from security officials in Yangon who had just returned from Rakhine state, where a military crackdown has sent more than 620,000 Rohingya Muslims fleeing into neighbouring Bangladesh.

mu Space is awarded 15 year satellite license to assist rural Thailand
mu Space becomes Thailand’s first space technology startup to operate a satellite service after the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission awarded a license for the company. The 15-year license covers the operation of a satellite and provision of satellite-based services until 2032. Speaking on behalf of mu Space, Chief Technical Officer Samathorn Teankingkaeo said his team plans to differentiate mu Space from the others by providing satellite services that are affordable and easy to install.
