    Overnight rains trigger floods in Phang Nga

    Last night it rained and rained in parts of Phuket and Phang Nga. This morning there were floods affecting many of the main arteries in both provinces. Several roads and villages in Phang Nga were hit with hillside runoff and landslides  following heavy rain overnight.

    Chaiyaphum police suspended over local sex-bribery scandal

    Three police commanders in Chaiyaphum’s Muang district have reportedly been transferred to inactive posts, pending a probe over bribery allegations involving underage prostitution. A source at the Royal Thai Police said the Muang Chaiyaphum precinct superintendent Col Pongpat Chaengmeunwai, inspector Maj Pornchai Saengsila and Pornchai’s deputy inspector Capt Uthai Hongwiset had been summoned to the provincial headquarters. Evidence of bribery was uncovered after the Department of Special Investigation and the Provincial Administration Department, acting upon an NGO’s complaint to the Dhamrongtham Centre, conducted a sting operation on Tuesday night to arrest the owner of a Muang district’s karaoke bar, Kanchana Thongluan

  • Cargo boat from Phuket hits rocks off Koh Phi Phi

    A cargo boat travelling from Phuket suffered engine failure, was hit by waves and ended up stuck on rocks off Koh Phi Phi in Krabi this morning (August 23). Officials from the Hat Nopparat Thara National Park were called at 10.30am to inform them that a cargo boat name ‘Salinee’ had engine failure and was found drifting near Laem Tong on Koh Phi Phi. A tour boat from the Andaman Wave Company was used to tow the cargo boat off the rocks

    Location on hills in Patong, Karon and Kata to lose pressure Friday

    The Phuket Water Authority (PWA) has announced that the water supply in some areas of Patong, Kata and Karon will be shut off from 9am to 5pm Friday (August 24). Water will be shut off as the Patong Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) will have to temporarily shut the electric off in some areas. Areas to be affected are locations on hills in Patong, Kata and Karon that require water to be pumped up to provide pressure.

  • Four religions join in prayer ceremony for Phoenix boat victims

    A prayer ceremony has been held at Saphan Hin for the 47 victims of the Phoenix boat disaster. The ceremony represented the four different religions of people who drowned on the evening of July 5. The ceremony was led by the the Minister of Tourism and Sports Weerasak Kowsurat and the Phuket Governor Norraphat Plodthong.

  • Mourning man walks 1,533 kilometres to Doi Inthanon with girlfriend’s ashes

    A man has spent more than a year walking from Trang in the south to Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s tallest mountain in Chiang Mai – an epic journey of 1,533 kilometres – to spread the ashes of his girlfriend. By yesterday afternoon (Wednesday), 39 year old Sakchai Suphanmart, from Udon Thani, had reached the San Patong district of Chiang Mai. He was seen pushing a cart with his belongings and walking along with two dogs while holding a black kitten

  • Phuket garage owner arrested with drugs and firearms

    Sakoo Police have arrested a garage owner and seized drugs, firearms and bullets. Police have arrested 34 year old Pohnchai ‘Jane’ Petcharat, from Phuket, who is a garage owner in Sakoo. Officer have seized a handgun, two handmade handguns, a BB gun, a rifle and 67 bullets. Police also seized 319 methamphetamine pills

  • 2,000 fake goods seized, 8 arrested in Chinatown raid

    Police have searched Bangkok’s Sampheng (Chinatown) area and arrested six Thais and two foreigners for selling goods in violation of international IP laws.

  • Waste water flowing in Mudong Canal

    Local residents near Mudong Canal in Wichit, Phuket, are calling for officials to clean up their act after wastewater has been flound flowing in the canal and out to the sea. Dead animals have also found floating in the canal. Yesterday (August 22) officials from the Environment Office Region 15 Phuket and others inspected the Mudong Canal.

  • Flooding in Phuket, Phetchaburi and Mae Hong Son

    PHOTO: Samkong underpass, Phuket – Newshawk Bad weather has hit Phang Nga and Phuket this morning whilst the flooding waters from the Kaeng Krachan dam in Phetchaburi are now reaching the main business district. In Phuket the major arteries are being clogged by flooding waters creating havoc for this morning’s peak hour. The Marine Office has issued a warning for boats heading to sea today.
