Tougher screening for public transport drivers
Beginning on March 1, applicants for licences to drive public transport will have to submit a medical certificate in a form approved by the Medical Council of Thailand. The Department of Land Transport announced this week that the aim is to standardise its processing and increase efficiency in screening out people with health conditions that prohibit them from driving. Department director-general Sanit Phromwong said the application would contain one section for listing illnesses and prior driving accidents and another for a physician to provide diagnostic details and certify the absence of disability and mental or physical illness that might affect driving ability

Six buildings demolished for encroaching national park land on Phi Phi
A hundred officers from Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, police, military and Office of Forestry demolished houses and shops located next to the national park booth. The team expect the full demolition to take 3 days. “It started in 2014 when the officers discovered the land encroachment.

Fourth drug courier arrested at Phuket Gateway
A 24 year old from Nakhon Si Thammarat, Jakrit Paipong, was arrested yesterday (February 13) at the Phuket Gateway Thachatchai checkpoint while carrying drugs to be distributed in Phuket. The van driving from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Phuket was stopped for a search and a military officer found Jakrit acting ‘suspiciously’.

Krabi granny still going strong at 111 years old
Krabi Governor, Pol Lt Col ML Kitibodhi Prawit, along with Krabi authorities and Krabi Red Cross, visited a local resident, Pliew Petchpuang who is 111 years old, to greet and grant her with New Year gifts today (February 6). The Chief of Krabi Office of Social Development and Human Security, Kitti Intarakul, who also went to visit the old lady, said that his office made a search for citizens who are over than 100 years old and found that she is the oldest. Taxi OK project in Krabi
Following its implementation in Bangkok last month, ‘Taxi’ OK’ is now coming closer to Phuket. The latest taxi ‘Taxi OK’ campaign has been launched in Krabi, aiming to ensure that no passenger would be rejected no matter where they request to travel to, amongst other new improvements to taxi services. Krabi Land Transport Office Chief, Laddawan Chinnasatian, said today (January 6) that there were many problems about Krabi taxis.

Four houses destroyed, one badly damaged, in Phuket Town fire
A fire consumed four Phuket houses and partially damaged another on Monday morning, police said. The Muang Phuket police station was alerted of the fire in Tambon Talad Mai at 6.45am. The crew from four fire engines took about an hour to put out the blaze, which burned down four connected houses and damaged a fifth.

Case dismissed against four accused of launching grenades against PDRC demonstrators in 2013
By Kesinee Tangkiaw The first court on Thursday has dismissed a case against four people accused of firing 40mm grenades at demonstrators from the now–defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) at the Government Complex in early 2013, citing insufficient witnesses and evidence. Chatchawawn Prabbamrung, 49, Taweechai Vichakham, 43, Sunthorn Piphuannok, 53, and Somsri Marit, 44, were accused of contempt of murder as well as violation of gun weapons laws. They were accused of firing grenades at the protestors in the middle of the night of February 8, 2013 and again against a crowd on April 10, 2013.
