A beautifully sculpted masterpiece titled “Horse-Bird-Fish-Water”, about the Himmaphan forest of Hindu and Buddhist mythology, has earned Thai students from Ubon Ratchathani Vocational College the top award at China’s Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival held from January 4-7. This is the second consecutive year the college has won the prize, and the ninth consecutive year that a team from Thailand has won.

Soldiers arrest 42 at Songkhla gambling den
Army Region 4 officers rounded up 42 punters – 31 women and 11 men – at a temporary gambling den set up in the middle of a rubber plantation in Songkhla’s Khlong Hoi Khong district. The arresting soldiers also seized gambling tools such as a “po pan” betting set, nearly 200 gambling chips, 12 betting tickets and 2,980 baht in cash from tents set up in the plantation in Tambon Thung Lan. UPDATE: 4 motorcycle thugs surrendered
The four members of a motorcycle gang who attacked 40 year old Romy Navio, who tried to stop them from hurting three other young men, have surrendered. Yesterday (December 3) at 2pm, the four, including 18 year old Nattawut ‘Fad’ Plighin, 18 year old Sarun ‘Yak’ Muenkla, 18 year old Panuruj ‘Tiw’ Sudpangyang and 18 year old Kajorn ‘Ben’ Raya, surrendered at Wichit Police Station.

Tropical storm “Tembin” makes its way across the Gulf of Thailand
Fishermen have been warned of strong winds and high waves in the Gulf of Thailand as the result of typhoon “Tembin”, which has now passed through southern Vietnam yesterday and due to affect the southern coastal areas from Pranchuap Khiri Khan to Songkhla from tomorrow and Thursday. Payao Muengngam, director of the Southern Meteorological Centre for the east coast, is warning the fishermen along the Gulf of Thailand to be cautious when going out to sea this week. Waves as high as four metres could be expected as typhoon Tembin approaches, while the storm will also dump heavy rain on the entire southern region. Tropical storm Tembin has already wreaked havoc in The Philippines, killing more than 200 people
