Phuket taxi thugs apologize, pay damages for attack on tour driver
PHUKET: The three taxi drivers who assaulted another driver working for a Phuket elephant camp have apologized for the attack and paid 40,000 baht in damages. Kamala Police Duty Officer Anek Mongkol confirmed today that the three taxi drivers Wasan Sanae, 35, Sitthikorn Boonsri, 28, and Thanawut Poksakul, 25 were each fined 1,000 baht for the attack.

PHUKET: Police believe that a Cambodian construction worker found dead this morning died from high blood pressure. Thalang Police Duty Officer Praman Yapphayak said he was notified of the death at about 7:30am

PHUKET: The cricketing fraternity on Phuket is preparing for the upcoming 2011/2012 Island Furniture League, and all fixtures will be played at the sports new dedicated facility the Alan Cooke Ground (ACG) in Thalang. PHUKET: Blistering heat heralded the first Phuket Rugby Challenge Trophy sponsored by Heineken Thailand played at Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club, and DEA Tigers from Hong Kong are the inaugural champions. Using the International Rugby Board (IRB) approved synthetic surface at Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club, Bedok Kings and DEA Tigers from Hong Kong, the Singapore Bucks and host club Phuket Vagabonds descended on the facility in Thalang for 40 minute games in a round-robin format.

Phuket Vegetarian Festival: vendors and officials differ on prices
PHUKET: Local residents worried about overpriced onions and pricey pineapples during the Phuket Vegetarian Festival fear not: recent flooding in central and north Thailand will only have a slight effect on produce prices, at least according to officials. The Phuket Provincial Internal Trade Office (PITO) has announced that the flooding crisis in the northern and central parts of Thailand would not have a major impact on vegetable and fruit prices during the annual festival, which starts on September 27 and runs through October 5 this year. Despite this assurance, many vendors at a fresh market have told the Gazette they plan to increase produce prices by 5 baht to 10 baht per kilo, saying demand always drives prices up during the festival
