    PHUKET: A tour bus full of school directors from Narathiwat province overturned in Phang Nga late this morning, causing numerous injuries, but fortunately no deaths. The bus was en route to Krabi when the accident occurred on a sharp curve known locally as „Chong Kub Tha Yu“, located on the road from Lo Yung to Tha Yu in Takua Thung district. District police were informed that the bus had overshot the curve and overturned at 11am.

    PHUKET: An Australian tourist on holiday in Phuket has been flown to Bangkok to receive treatment after suffering a serious head injury from falling off the back of a tuk-tuk in Patong last night. Tuk-tuk driver Paiboon Hemwara, 30, told the Phuket Gazette that he picked up Mr Noble and his wife at the top of Soi Bangla at about 9pm.

    PHUKET: The project to build a bridge between the two islands Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai took a soggy step backward yesterday morning when a ferry waiting to unload its cargo of construction materials to build the bridge started taking on water in the rough weather currently affecting much of Thailand, including Phuket. No injuries were reported in the incident. The partial sinking of the ferry occurred while the vessel was floating off the Sala Dan landing on Koh Lanta Noi, in Krabi province.

    PHUKET: Krabi authorities have launched a massive cleanup operation after a boat struck rocks and spilled a large volume of oil into the sea, resulting in extensive damage to protected mangrove forests in Neua Khlong District, about 130 kilometers east of Phuket across Phang Nga Bay. The spill was first reported at 9am Saturday morning. How much oil was spilled is not known, but one local in an affected area in Khlong Khanan subdistrict reported oil lining 10 kilometers of coastline, with an estimated 1,000 rai of mangrove forest affected.

    PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Police Commander Chonasit Wattanavrangkul has ordered all police stations across Phuket to take part in the formation of a “Special Operations Unit” in order to boost patrols in key tourist areas from 9pm to 4am. Maj Gen Chonasit announced the news on Thursday at a meeting of the Regional Peace Keeping Council, Phuket Office, headed by Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha. “I have to admit that we do not have enough police officers here to be able to monitor all areas closely,” Maj Gen Chonasit explained.

    PHUKET: James Lakin , long-term Phuket resident and one of the founding members of the Rawai Supporters’ Club, has died at the age of 38. Mr Lakin, nicknamed “Shaggy” by his friends, died on the evening of June 23, having suffered from a heart condition. His funeral will be held at Wat Sawang Arom in Rawai today and the wake will be at the newly named Shaggy’s Bar.
