Frenchman confesses to murdering Italian love rival. Re-enactment yesterday.
The much publicised murder of an Italian man, in which his Thai ex-wife and her French boyfriend have been implicated, apparently has been solved after police said the Frenchman had confessed to the killing. Pol Colonel Chaisathien Maneechak, from Bung Nara Police Station in Phichit province, said French national 34 year old Rigaux Amaury had confessed to stabbing to death 61 year old Giuseppe de Stefanivduring an argument about his affair with 38 year old Rujira Eiumlamai on January 18. Before the murder of the Italian, Amaury, Rujira and de Stefani reportedly travelled to a forest in Bueng Nara district by car

Dugong found dead on a beach in Rassada
Kusoldham Phuket Foundation and Muang Phuket Police received a report from locals at noon today (January 26) about the dead body of a dugong washed up ashore on Somkiet Beach in Baan Laem Nga, Rassada sub-district. The 1.2-meter-long dugong started to smell already and there were traces of cuts from sharp items on the head, skin and stomach with its entrails hanging out. The dugong is believed to be a baby dugong of 1-2 years that has been dead for at least one week.

Filipino and Burmese killed in Karon crash
A Fillipino man, 35 year old Arthur Mina, and a Burmese woman have died following a crash earlier this morning (January 25) on Patak Road, Karon. Police say that his motorcycle collided with another motorcycle driven by a woman (whose name hasn’t been announced by police). The accident occurred on a curve.

UPDATE: Blaze near Surakul Stadium damages local shops
The fire started in the electric cabling curled up on the electric pole in front of a motorcycle garage and damaged the shop, including many motorbikes. The total loss, according to police attending the scene, following discussions with the proprietors, is at least 300,000 Baht.

Dante Alighieri Phuket rolls their sleeves up for the elderly
Today (January 11), Dante Alighieri Society Phuket distributed food for elderly people at Ban Phuket Elders Public Aid in Thalang. Mrs Nonglak Khantong, president of Dante Alighieri Phuket and Mr Carlo Briola, treasurer of the Association, have declared that this is just the first of the group’s charity initiatives.

Progress on Sea Gypsy Sirinath NP fishing case
Rawai’s Mayor, Arun Solos, led a group of Rawai Sea Gypsies to file a complaint this morning (January 11), in order to call for justice for the 6 fishermen arrested in Sirinath Marine National Park. The mayor headed a delegation including Niran Yangpan, the community leader, village chief and sub-district chief with the 6 fishermen to hand the letter to Vice Governor Sanit Srivihok, who says he will pass it to the Governor.

Asia’s prison populations – Thailand #10 in the world
China has the largest prison population in Asia, more than four times as large as India. However, when it comes to prison population rates, Thailand has the highest incarceration rate in the region. Around the world more than 10.35 million people are imprisoned either as pretrial detainees or having been convicted and sentenced, according to the report of UK-based Institute of Criminal Policy Research.
