PHUKET: Police investigating a knife attack by three Thai males on four foreign tourists at Patong Beach on April 1 believe that the trio are from Trang Province and that they are also responsible for an attack on a Thai man later the same day. Two Russians and two Australians were injured in the altercation early Friday morning on Patong Beach with the two Russian victims receiving deep cuts to their hands after trying to fend off the robbers (story here ).
PHUKET: The introduction of traffic barriers to stop pedestrians crossing Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road in Patong serves as yet another reminder that the traffic problem in the tourist town could be vastly improved by the introduction of a simple, reasonably-priced public transport system. Patong Police and Patong Municipality, the forces behind the barrier project, believe that not having pedestrians venture out into the dangerous one-way road will also help ease traffic congestion in the area, which is particularly hazardous late at night due to the level of partying there.
PHUKET: Authorities are trying to track down the owner of a house in Chalong that was gutted by fire this afternoon. The fire broke out at about 12:45pm at the single-storey residence situated in a row of terraced houses in Soi Songkun.

PHUKET: The owner of a small shophouse in Vichit was shocked to get an electricity bill for almost half a million baht this week. Boonlert NokBanjong, 48, who has never paid more than 2,000 baht a month to power his single-storey shophouse, was stunned when his bill for March arrived demanding 468,182.82 baht.

PHUKET: The national anthem will be broadcast from all 19 tsunami warning towers throughout Phuket at 1:30pm today as part of the island’s annual tsunami practice drill. Authorities this year have opted to play the national anthem, instead of the usual multi-lingual warnings that would be used in a real event, in order to avoid panic and confusion among the public.
PHUKET: The legal team of the Myanmar nationals convicted for the Koh Tao double murder is focusing on the DNA evidence used against the men in their trial ahead of the appeal being filed next month, assisted by leading foreign lawyers and forensic experts. Lawyer Nakorn Chomphuchart told The Nation that he had got advice from many foreign legal experts, including Australian Mark Trowell QC, who was the lawyer for [former] Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim. He said the appeal was around 60 per cent completed and he was confident the Appeals Court would consider the case seriously.
KRABI: Rescue workers attempted to keep the cement wet as they searched for five women lost in the debris of a construction site building collapse yesterday. The bodies of all five women were eventually recovered. The women were named as: Jitranon Saikaew, 26; Kaliya Jandeewan, 22; Yad Kodorn, 42; Warin Ratchabut, 31; and Linthong Promsuvann, 37.
