Torrential rain dogs west coast of Phuket this morning
VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Nicky Phukettour / Traffic police / Jao Blue Car 2299 – Newshawk Phuket Parts of Phuket’s west coast were awash this morning with torrential rain. The rain came from a small rain cell that sat over an area along the coast between Patong and Kamala, drenching Kamala, southern Patong, Kalim and the coastal road for over an hour between 11am and midday. Parts of the road out the front of the Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay were awash with muddy flood waters full of debris which had washed down from construction sites on the hill.

Maya Bay closed indefinitely
Maya Bay is to remain closed indefinietly. The four month closure of Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi has failed to restore the beach area as anticipated.

One dead in Phoenix boat salvage operations
The salvage operations for the ‘Phoenix’ have become mired in poor arrangements and unsuitable weather since operations began several months ago. Now, one person has died during the operations. On September 29, around noon, 37 year old Nipat ‘Jos’ Gladnak died during the salvage operation.

Whale shark sighted off Koh Racha
A healthy looking whale shark was sighted off Koh Racha, south of Phuket, yesterday. Videos of the whale shark have been shared widely in social media with a message reading “a whale shark is near Koh Racha and swimming near a tour boat.” A tour guide of Nikorn Marine company, Mali Boondanpai, who recorded the video says, “the tour boat was carrying a South Korean tourist family with 6 adult sand 4 children heading to Koh Maithon and Koh Racha Yai yesterday morning.” “While we were between Koh Maithon and Koh Racha, about noon, we saw a big fish followed the tour boat.
