  • Bryde’s whales thrill tourists off Chumpon coast

    People along the shore of Pathiu district in southern Chumphon province have been treated to the sight of a pair of Bryde’s whales today (Tuesday).   The whales – commonly referred to as Bruda whales because of the pronunciation of the Norwegian name Bryde – surfaced repeatedly for about an hour near Koh Ran Ped and Koh Ran Kai, about six nautical miles off the mainland, according to Pathiu community tourism network president Somchok Panthurat.

One man has died and more than 3,300 houses damaged by windstorms and thunderstorms from April 23-28. According to the director-general of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, windstorms struck 32 provinces, 84 districts, 172 tambon and 393 villages, damaging altogether 3,320 houses and affecting 7,715 people

    Thalang police have arrested a local drug dealer, 24 year old Saowarak ‘Tah’ Oamsin, with 4,548 amphetamine pills and 136.55 grams of crystal methamphetamine. She was arrested in a house in Paklok after police received a report from undercover officers in the area that she was selling drugs to local juveniles regularly. At the house, police found the drugs, a digital scale, zip-lock bags to separate the drugs with black, pink and brown hand bags, for a total value of about 1 million Baht.

She said that she lives in a rented flat in Ao Nang and at about 10.15 pm last night (April 17), she was taking a shower and noticed a man standing behind the wall of the bathroom and put his hand holding a mobile phone to take a video of her through a vent.
